Russian occupiers have been shelling the Kharkiv, Chernihiv, and Sumy regions more frequently in the past month.
This was reported by Deputy Minister of Defense Hanna Maliar.
“In the past month, the enemy has increased the shelling of border regions – Kharkiv, Chernihiv, and Sumy. For example, in the last week from May 8 to 16, 2023, Russian forces carried out 162 shelling attacks on these regions. The most heavily affected was the Sumy region with 110 shelling attacks. Chernihiv had 29, and Kharkiv had 23”, she stated.
According to the Deputy Defense Minister, the enemy army fires at the civilian population daily using various types of weapons and destroys civilian objects such as kindergartens, hospitals, and schools. There are casualties and injuries, including children.
“Russia is waging a war without rules and systematically violates the norms of international humanitarian law. In addition, through artillery and airstrikes in the border regions, the enemy seeks to keep our forces in a state of tension and prevent their engagement in other directions”, Maliar added.
It should be noted that today, May 17, the occupiers shelled Kurakhove: one person was killed, and one was injured. In addition, three multi-story buildings and four private houses were damaged.
