There is indeed a plan by the Russians to take Kharkiv or Sumy, with the main goal of Russia remaining the destruction of Ukraine.
This was revealed by Lieutenant General Oleksandr Pavlyuk, the commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in an interview with The Times.
“Our intelligence services say that the Russians indeed have a plan to take Kharkiv or Sumy, but we do not know how serious these plans are and whether they are capable of implementing them with the forces they have at their disposal”, he said.
According to Pavlyuk, “Russia’s main goal is the destruction of Ukraine as a nation”.
“But since we have not given them such an opportunity since 2022, we believe that the goals the Russians set for themselves this year are the complete occupation of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, and if they succeed, Zaporizhzhia region”, he added.
It is known that the Russian Federation has a plan to destabilize Ukraine, consisting of three stages. It combines battlefield advantage, a disinformation campaign in Ukraine, and isolation on the international stage.
Additionally, Deputy Chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate Vadym Skibitsky, in an interview with The Economist, stated that the situation on the battlefield for Ukraine is more challenging than ever since the first days of Russia’s full-scale invasion, and it will worsen.
According to Skibitsky, May will be a crucial month when Russia will implement a “three-tiered” plan of destabilization.
