Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz reiterated his unwillingness to supply the Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine.
He made this statement during a speech in the Bundestag, as reported by Tagesschau.
Specifically, he finds it unacceptable to supply such a weapon system “which can only be effectively used when German soldiers are involved.” According to him, this is unacceptable even if German soldiers are outside the borders of Ukraine.
“This is a line I do not want to cross as Chancellor”, Scholz added.
Recall that recently the United Kingdom offered Germany assistance in supplying Ukraine with Taurus cruise missiles.
This involves the so-called “ring exchange” option: Germany transfers Taurus missiles to the UK, and the UK, in turn, supplies Ukraine with additional Storm Shadow missiles.
