Spain is delaying the shipment of six Leopard 2A4 tanks to Ukraine. They will leave the country in the second half of April.

As reported by The Guardian, this was claimed by Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles.

It is noted that the combat tanks have not been used since the 1990s. During this time, they were preserved in reserve, requiring re-equipment and combat readiness verification.

Last month, Spain promised to send tanks to Ukraine after Catholic Easter, which falls on April 9th.

Overall, the delivery of ten Leopard 2A4 tanks is expected. According to Robles, the Armed Forces have already started repairing the remaining four tanks.

At the end of last year, journalists from Bloomberg counted all the weapons and equipment that Ukraine had received from Western allies and that the West promised to transfer in the near future. Ukraine’s allies provided more than 4,000 units of armored vehicles, artillery systems, aircraft, and other weapons systems to help Kyiv fight Russia, and now the most powerful NATO members are sending more lethal weapons.

On February 24th, Poland had already delivered the first Leopard tanks to Ukraine. The coalition of countries providing tanks to Ukraine continues to grow. Nine countries have committed to providing over 150 Leopard tanks, according to US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin ahead of the 10th meeting of the Contact Group on Defense Matters for Ukraine.
