Last week, the Ukrainian Armed Forces liberated another 3 square kilometers on the southern flank around Bakhmut.
This was reported by the Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Hanna Maliar, during a telethon broadcast.
“As for the Bakhmut direction, there is news now about both the southern and northern flanks. If you look at the map, it somewhat resembles a horseshoe around Bakhmut”, she explained.
According to Maliar, the enemy is trying to dislodge our forces from the positions they have occupied along the northern flank. The Ukrainian forces have secured key dominant heights there and are effectively engaging the enemy.
“In fact, the enemy is trapped there. They can’t leave Bakhmut and advance freely. So, they are attempting to storm along this northern flank to dislodge our forces. However, the enemy is failing to do so, but the battles there are intense as well”, Maliar noted.
At the same time, Ukrainian forces are making progress on the southern flank around Bakhmut and managed to liberate an additional 3 square kilometers last week.
“Altogether, we can talk about 43 square kilometers liberated around Bakhmut or on the flanks of Bakhmut”, summarized the Deputy Minister of Defense.
Recall that on August 16th, the Armed Forces of Ukraine captured the settlement of Urozhaine in Donetsk region during their offensive operations in the east.
