The State Bureau of Investigations has announced suspicion against the former Deputy Minister of Defense and the head of one of the departments at the Ministry of Defense for misappropriating over 250 million hryvnias.

This information was reported by the SBR (State Bureau of Investigations) press service.

This is another episode of uncovering illegal activities by former officials, with a total amount of 1.4 billion hryvnias. The SBR noted that the former Deputy Minister, who was responsible for logistical support of the Armed Forces, and the acting head of one of the Ministry of Defense departments responsible for supplying the military, ordered low-quality body armor abroad.

In this case, a 100% advance payment was made, and the established procedure for quality control of the goods was violated.

As a result, the Ukrainian Armed Forces received substandard body armor that cannot be used in combat without risking lives.

Former officials have been charged with suspicion and could face imprisonment for up to 12 years.

It is worth noting that on October 9th, the Shevchenkivskyi District Court decided to detain the former Deputy Minister of Defense, Viacheslav Shapovalov, until November 1st. He is suspected of procuring equipment for the Ukrainian Armed Forces abroad without including a clause in the contracts regarding compliance with Ukrainian quality standards.
