Russia would not dare to use nuclear weapons against Ukraine and the world in the event of losing the occupied Crimea.

This was announced by the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate, Kirylo Budanov.

“Those who fear escalation say that if Russia realizes it will lose Crimea, it may start nuclear escalation. There have been many reasons for the use of nuclear weapons already. And what’s the point? In Russian doctrine, nuclear weapons are seen as a “means of deterrence””, he said.

This is what everyone is afraid of and speculating about.

The head of the Main Intelligence Directorate noted that for Russia, the use of nuclear weapons would be much more expensive than abstaining from it. Recall that back in November 2023, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law withdrawing from the ratification of the global treaty banning nuclear tests. At the same time, Moscow promises not to resume nuclear testing unless Washington does so.
