Deputy Minister of Economy Oleksiy Sobolev stated that it is possible to return Ukraine's economy to its pre-war level and even exceed those indicators within 4 years.
He made this statement in an interview with Ukrinform.
According to the Deputy Minister, the main prerequisites for achieving this goal are Ukraine’s accession to the EU and NATO, as well as the return of refugees to their homes.
“We plan to return the economy to the pre-war level within four years and achieve growth as well. In the first year of the war, the country’s economy contracted by 30%, so we aim to surpass this figure within four years,” he said.
Sobolev also mentioned that Ukraine can become a leader in “green” metallurgy, especially in the production of “green” steel.
“For example, in 2026, the EU will implement the CBAM regulation, which aims to decarbonize the European metallurgical sector. This creates an economic opportunity for Ukraine,” Sobolev explained.
He further elaborated that after the war, Ukraine can produce decarbonized steel and export it to Europe on favorable terms.
