During a combat mission in Donetsk Oblast, two Ukrainian Mi-8 helicopters crashed, resulting in at least 6 casualties.
This was stated in a comment to RBC-Ukraine by the spokesperson of the Eastern Military Group of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Ilya Yevlash.
“Indeed, an aviation catastrophe involving two Mi-8 helicopters occurred. They were on a combat mission when an enemy Su-35 fighter jet was in the air”, he said.
According to his words, the tragedy happened in the Kramatorsk district, but the exact cause is still unknown. However, there is information that a Russian Su-35 fighter took off at that time while the Ukrainian helicopters were attempting to land. This was done to safeguard against potential attack.
He also added that the data regarding the number of casualties still needs to be clarified. According to information from the press service of the 18th Separate Brigade of Army Aviation, there were six individuals on board.
He noted that investigators are currently establishing the details and circumstances that led to the aviation catastrophe.
Recall that on August 25, there was also an aviation catastrophe involving training-combat aircraft L-39 in the Zhytomyr region.
