The American television channel Vice conducted an interview with the Russian children's ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova, who claimed to have "saved Ukrainian children" when they were deported to Russia.
The full video of the interview was published by Vice News.
Regarding the ICC warrant, Lvova-Belova said with a smile, “I am a mother, that’s all there is to it. What war criminal are you talking about?”
After that, the Russian children’s ombudsman began to speak with barely contained anger, saying that Russia does not recognize the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court, and the Geneva Convention gives the right to “evacuate” children from zones where there is a danger to their lives and health.
The journalist noted that the Geneva Convention also provides that the evacuation of people should take place to a third country not involved in the conflict.
Lvova-Belova replied, “The Donetsk People’s Republic, the Luhansk People’s Republic were not Ukraine, they were recognized by our state as independent republics”.
The journalist noted that the problem is in the definitions of what is Russia and what is not, who is a Russian and who is not.
Lvova-Belova smiled and shook her head, saying, “I don’t understand”.
According to Lvova-Belova, the Russians “saved” people a year ago from the surrounded city of Mariupol, and now from Bakhmut, because Ukraine allegedly did not take care of evacuation and humanitarian corridors (Russia did not agree to them).
When asked by the journalist whether attempts to destroy a nation and the displacement of children is not genocide when Russia does not want the existence of Ukraine, the Russian official replied coldly, “How can we talk about genocide when we have a fairly large part of people in Russia with Ukrainian blood? What genocide? What are you talking about?”
In response to this interview, the advisor to the Head of the Presidential Office Myhaylo Podolyak stated that “Russia is the perfect construction of hell.”
“Maria Lvova-Belova, wanted for war (genocidal) crimes, casually gives interviews to American journalists, where she talks about her “unusual maternal heart” and sincerely wonders at the accusations: “We just came into their cities, destroyed their homes, killed and maimed their parents in front of their eyes, sent them to filtration camps in distant regions, where we brutally torture and force them to listen to propaganda lectures, and added… a second passport. Isn’t this salvation? Isn’t this about ‘Russian mercy’? Isn’t this about justice? Don’t we have the right to rid them of their wrong identity?”.
“A more accurate illustration of the word ‘cannibal’ is impossible to imagine…”, said Podolyak.
