Preparation and formation of new air defense fire groups are underway in the northern regions of Ukraine. These units provide a great alternative to anti-aircraft missiles, the depletion of which is expected by the Russian Federation upon target destruction.

This was stated by the Commander of the Joint Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Sergiy Naiev.

“In the Northern operational zone, the formation and training of new mobile air defense fire groups are proceeding quite effectively. This has become possible thanks to new modern foreign-made weapons that are supplied by partner countries”, he said.

Naiev emphasized the crucial role played by these mobile fire groups in defending Ukraine’s airspace.

“Both day and night, 24/7, these crews are dispatched on missions to destroy enemy aerial targets. ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft autocannons are an adequate response to the enemy’s strategy of exhausting our air defense system”, the military officer explained.

According to Naiev, the aggressor expects that the stock of high-value anti-aircraft missiles will be exhausted in countering their drones. Instead, as the general added, the anti-aircraft autocannon allows them to carry out combat missions with relatively inexpensive ammunition.

It is worth mentioning that Ukrainian troops have previously installed the “Stugna” anti-tank missile system on the chassis of an American multi-purpose off-road vehicle. Soldiers can fire directly from the armored vehicle at enemy positions on the front line.
