The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine conducted a successful cyberattack on the software used by Russians to control drones.
This was reported by the press service of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
The software used by Russians to reflash DJI quadcopters for combat purposes was targeted. This software allows enemy drone operators to adjust control panels, capture video, transmit images to the command post, and control the drone from a computer. The compromised software also handles the “friend or foe” recognition system.
Cybersecurity experts have shut down server operations, causing all software to be recognized as “foreign” and denying Russians access. As a result, controlling the drones from the remote controls is likely impossible.
Currently, the adversary is attempting to address the issue, including transitioning to manual control mode, according to the Main Intelligence Directorate.
