President of China Xi Jinping and President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky had a phone conversation.

This was announced by President Zelensky on Twitter.

I had a long and meaningful phone call with President Xi Jinping. I believe that this call, as well as the appointment of Ukraine’s ambassador to China, will give a powerful impetus to the development of our bilateral relations“, he noted.

As it is known, this is their first conversation since the start of the Russian full-scale invasion on February 24.

As reported by spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hua Chunying, China will send a special envoy to Ukraine to help resolve the “crisis”, writes The Guardian.

She emphasized that China is clear and consistent in its readiness to develop bilateral relations with Ukraine and strategic partnership.

The spokesperson repeated the words of Xi Jinping that “in the Ukrainian crisis, China always stands on the side of peace, and the main position is to promote peaceful negotiations”.

“As a permanent member of the UN Security Council and a responsible major country, China will not sit idly by, will not add fuel to the fire, and even more so will not use the situation for its own benefit”, Hua Chunying said.

It should be recalled that earlier a French diplomat who was present at the meeting of French President Emmanuel Macron with Xi Jinping stated that the Chinese leader is ready to call President Zelensky, but “when the time comes.”
