Ukraine cannot give up Bakhmut because it would help the occupiers expand their front and give Russian forces a chance to capture Sloviansk and Kramatorsk.
Zelensky stated this in an interview with Al Arabia.
According to Zelensky, if Russia captures Bakhmut, it will have a launching pad to attack two major cities – Kramatorsk and Sloviansk.
“We cannot give up Bakhmut because it [will help] expand the front and give Russian troops and Wagner the chance to capture more of our land”, the president said.
Zelensky also commented on the statements of some analysts that the city has no great strategic significance. The president invited them to visit Bakhmut so that they could understand what could happen if it falls and what threats it poses.
During the interview, President Zelensky thanked his allies for their support, but noted that their assistance is a small price to pay to prevent Russia from going further.
“The truth is that Russia will not stop at Ukraine, and everyone understands this,” Zelensky said, adding that Ukraine can stop the aggressor country.
According to the President of Ukraine, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is fighting for his life, not for his country.
