Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that Ukraine should become the 33rd member of NATO and expects to receive a decision from the Alliance on the algorithm for joining.

The President made this statement after the summit with the heads of state and governments of Ukraine and the Nordic countries in Helsinki, according to Interfax-Ukraine.

“Ukraine will become the 33rd member of NATO. We understand that during the time of aggression, it was impossible for Ukraine to join the Alliance, but there are no obstacles to making a political decision on the algorithm for our accession”, Zelensky said.

The President also congratulated the citizens of Finland on joining NATO.

“Suomi is a land for living, it has never been a land for war. This is a historic achievement that will remove uncertainty about security. I sincerely wish Sweden to complete this path as soon as possible”, he said.

It should be noted that on May 3, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited Finland on an official visit. There, he met with Finnish President Sauli Niinisto and discussed defense and support for Ukraine, bilateral relations, and the global geopolitical situation.
