President Volodymyr Zelensky called on the leaders of European Union states to support the commencement of negotiations with Ukraine regarding EU membership by the end of the year.
The text of Zelensky’s appeal to EU leaders was published by the Office of the President.
According to the head of state, Kyiv is following the recommendations of the European Union regarding its future accession and the president also mentioned the signing of the law on financial monitoring of politically significant individuals.
Zelensky added that Ukraine has practically implemented all seven recommendations of the European Commission. Both the decisions that were simpler and those that were more complex for politicians.
“We count on your unity in response – for the decision to start negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union”, he stated.
In Zelensky’s opinion, this decision will “determine in many ways the entire future path of the European Union.
“Either our Europe, together with Ukraine, Moldova, and ultimately with Georgia and Belarus, wins, or… the past wins. I am confident that all of you are on the side of a modern Europe. We must win” Zelensky added.
It’s worth noting that President Volodymyr Zelensky signed law No. 9269d, which addresses the prevention of money laundering and the financing of terrorism. Its adoption was necessary for Ukraine to progress further towards the European Union.
